Been looking for a crew cab to drop a Cummins, 4500, HP60 and a div 205 into alone with making it a CCSB. Found only 1 OBS reasonably priced, it's an old NYSDOT truck. 1996, 350/4l80, 2wd, not sure how rusty it is, but don't think it's too bad. I can get that for $1200, maybe less depending on what mood he is in.

I found a couple 80s crews, only 1 4wd, but that is like 4 hours one way to get it. The others were only 2wd's, not a big deal.

I really like the 90s body style, think they look sweet lifted. I haven't looked too hard into it yet, but with the 96, it's OBD II, and can't have the check engine light on, BUT, heard if it's a 1 ton, then it doesn't matter.

I could make some of my money back selling the parts off the truck I don't need. Another bummer is the truck is a plane jane, no A/C. I think. It would be nice to have if the family goes on a trip somewhere. The other stuff isn't a big deal, I could put cruise, delay wipers, locks on myself if I feel it's needed.

So if you had a choice, which would you build?? 80's or 90s CCSB??

currently if 96-up is reg for 8600-up gvw weight class you are exempt from obd-2 plug in test.

but dont count on that for a long time true story. thay are putting cats on oil burners and ultra low sulfer fuel yada yada yada. it wouldt suprise me if thay do start in a few years with obd plug in testing on bigger gvw vehicles.

so if it was me find 95 and older stuff. and if you like the newer inside stuff dont forget 95 was the first year for newer inside and last year for tbi.

I've been looking for a 92-95 crew, but haven't found a thing. I really don't want to mess with the 96-up inless it's a deisel already because of the OBS BS. Haven't found any of those either. I might go with the 80s, found some, just really wanted a newer one...
