I've got a decent crimper that I've had success with - that has interchangable jaws. Except, for open barrel crimps. Mediocre at best. Any of you have any tools that you've had decent success on those particular crimps?

I've got one for small stuff 20ga. Looking for 10/12 to about 16ga.

I forgot to get back to this. I know all of you guys said you loved the above style, but I don't see how they would crimp properly on the open barrel style. It looks like they'd work well on everything but that. I don't follow how it properly curls the wings over. But I may pick up a pair at some point an play with it.

In the meantime for ref down the road I found the following:

These work great for really tiny stuff, circuit board level stuff, drone/rc/3d printer. Tiny stuff.

These worked well for most of the automotive stuff. Crimped 10ga wire no problem, but the insulation was too big to easily get the proper grip for strain relief at that side. 12ga no problem.

These worked well for me on anything else. Insulated, uninsulated barrel ect.

Oh I see. My confusion on the open barrel terminology. I consider those a weather pack style crimper. For these style right?

I just use this simple style.

I use one size for the crimp on the insulation and another size for the crimp on the wire and crimp them both how far down I feel they should be by looks.

Use these extensively to crimp my weather pack stuff (edit: and metric pack), have for years. Look pretty similar to what was posted before. The wire crimp is indistinguishable from factory. The strain relief (round) crimp works fairly well.

I feel you could benefit from two sizes of these, or one that has changeable jaws. The larger wire sizes are definitely a challenge to get crimped right with this tool. I end up using the round portion to get the wings started folding inward to fit into the wire crimp portion on larger sizes. The crimp comes out fine, it's just the spread of the wings won't fit into the wire crimp "jaws". It's not really a problem, just a bit more work. If you were doing hundreds at once it would be annoying. Doing a few at a time doesn't phase me.
