Is there an open element air cleaner that will specifically fit over the throttle body on an '87? Nothing seems to fit right (won't clear all the stuff to settle down low enough) and no one seems to have one listed for this application.

Simple solution. Go to a junk yard and pick-up another spacer that fits between the air cleaner and the TBI, stack them, close up the egr hole and it will work fine. They do make tall spacers, but they are pretty expensive.

I had one that was actually made for a Q-jet I put on my Dad's 88 TBI 350. Fit fine. I think it was a Moroso. I got a taller filter and longer screw too for the wingnut. It was cool cause you could hear it sucking in the air when you wound her up.

I'm running K&N's on both my k5's (they are both 89's with tbi's...)

on Jedi Mind Trick (on-road k5) I'm running K&N with the extreme top, and on Insane Ewok (off-road k5) I'm running a K&N with the pre-filter & solid chrome top.

You wouldn't happen to know which model K&N it is, do you?

I'm running an open air filter on my TBI. Don't know the model number, but it's a 14x3 inch K&N.

it is just a standard 14" K&N... got a least 3" on the filter...

What has running an open filter on a tbi done to your gas mileage?
Thanks

you know I have no idea... I don't really track my gas milage...

both my k5's had all the tubing etc. pulled so it was the stock setup without connecting to the front. I figured if I'm gonna be sucking hot air then I might as well as suck all the hot air I want... LOL

nothing really. It added a little power, but that's about it.
