Open Headers....

Also don't forget fuel lines , light wires and brake lines run down the frame and the headers shoot right at them . Use turn downs to keep the heat off of them.
yep, they'll cook your tranny gaskets and rubber vaccuum line too. just bolt on some collectors and use some flex tube and if u want maybe throw a pipe on each side too, it'll help with the fumes. trust me u dont wanna be breathin fumes for a 100 miles. you'll most likley be feelin pretty crappy and tired by time u get there. but it wont hurt the motor as long as u stay outta the high rpms.

That's exactly what I ended up doing to my old green truck.. just got some 2.5" flex hose and bolted it to the collectors, then ghettor rigged soem hangers.

i dont think it will hurt a v8 but 4 bangers and some 6 need backpressure, friend of mine was a toyota mech. for about 18 years untill health problems wouldnt let him, he told me a story about a guy who bought a new tundra or tacoma dont really remember but he cut the exhaust right after the y pipe and broght it back within 10,000 miles becuase the engine was using oil like no other, they had to replace the engine, put the exhaust back on and the truck came back again with the same problom and no exhaust, no warrenty this time tho. He said he didnt think that guy was right in the head.

If you run turndowns you shouldn't have the exhaust headache. I drove just over a 1000 miles like this (one trip with my wife) and we never got the exhaust headache. I also wheeled like this for a week on the same trip, the only adverse affect was the pissed off motorists in SLC in the rush hour traffic. Just as a side note, no engine needs backpressure. The whole goal of an engine is to get air in to burn it and get the burned air out.

simply not true.

Ear-plugs, and go for it!!!

AFAIK, engine does not require back-pressure, and fumes cannot get inside cab unless you vent them in.

Heat and melting stuff is more likely than CO poisoning or damaging valves.

Do some more research/searching on it.

This has absolutely been beaten to death. An engine does not need backpressure. Running too large of exhaust may be detrimental to performance, but it's not because of lack of backpressure.

You need to get more air/fuel into an engine to make more power, how in the WORLD would keeping exhaust in a combustion chamber possibly help that happen?

This isn't the thread for this discussion though, this one is about damaging an engine. If you want to debate it, bring up one of the other threads that has (already resolved) the issue.
