opinion on tires

If your that broke, why buy new tires...?

I've got some really decent used tires from tire shops and salvage yards for like 20 to 45 bucks...you could buy a set of 4 for less than one of those new ones, run them until you have more money, then buy what you want later on...

there are not a lot of salvage yards here have to travel to get a good one

Shit I'd run em. I've run worse. New cheap tires are better than bald name brand tires. I wouldn't expect great life based on the experience I've had with import tires, but they will work for a time.

Oh,well that sucks!..:doah:..

We have lots of salvage yards and tire shops here, but lately its getting tougher to find used tires--mexicans and haitians buy up ALL of them at salvage yards, and export them,so you really have to do some searching at salvage yards and hope you find decent ones still on a vehicle..

There are still some deals to be had at tire shops though--a friend recently bought 4 B.F. Goodrich T/A's for 200 bucks at a tire shop near me,someone had bought them new, decided they didn't like them for towing, and "traded up" to some 10 ply truck tires..the store took 200 bucks off the cost of the 10 plys and the used tires only had 10,000 miles on them, still looked new..

Just like the salvage yards, see if the tire shops in your neck of the woods have decent used tires. A lot of folks out there swap out their wheels and tires for new stuff long before their old stuff is even worn out. A few years ago, I purchased a full set of Goodyears at a local tire shop that were just taken off of a Tahoe with less than 2000 miles on them. They were slightly larger than the factory tires on my old F150, which worked out perfectly as the stock tires were too small for that truck anyway. For $200 for the set installed, it was a great deal!

i tried and the guy at discount hada set he was holding for his cousin and woudn't even tel me if he had anything else.
only wanted to sell me new 300 tires. dont know if ill go back

Also try Craigslist. May get lucky with a wheel tire set you can just bolt on, and skip mounting and balancing costs.

First off, IMHO, tires are the one thing you don't skimp on. They are the only contact your vehicle has w/ the road. All your steering inputs depend on that contact. I don't mean that you have to run out and buy the most expensive tires, but you don't want to drive around on old worn out crap either.

I'm w/ Smokin' on this. I'd rather run new cheap tires than old half worn name brand tires, too. You never know what shape old used tires are in and there's a reason the last person got rid of them. The only exception would be if you can find some relatively new take-offs from someone that bought a new vehicle and immediately threw on a lift and bigger tires. Maybe check w/ your local dealership or 4x4 shop? Let them know what you're looking for and ask them to notify you if some come in.

Personally, I've had great experiences with General Tires. The AT2 is a good all around AT tire too, and they too are on close out at Tirerack. The AT2 has a very similar tread pattern to the previous model of the BFG All Terrain AT KO.

Depending on where you order them, you might be able to get them on the store's credit system, and usually the stores will price match tire rack.

I have ran some of those tires on a 96 f250 4x4 they worked well for the entire time I owned the truck they were on it when I purchased it. I wouldn't hesitate to buy them if I needed tires.
