Bull$hit, Allison is the leading manufacturer in heavy duty applications such as construction, agriculture(Stieger Tractor co. uses allisons in their 8x8's)buses are all automatics now because there faster. Todays technology has given us higher horsepower engines and automatics that are faster and more efficient in commercial vehicles. Somebody said something about old school buses with sticks, new buses are much faster and more efficient. Many trucking companies along with mine are converting 80,000lb GVW(tractor Trailers) trucks over to allison autos, and it's not 99.9% manuals in trucks, it's about 75% and is decreasing daily.
 
I am thinking you throw words like 'deadbeat' around because you are intimately familiar with the meaning.

They almost exclusively run powerglides and jericos....
You may be getting confused by the full manual valve bodies....
Now I'm not against manual at all... In fact I love them. I prefer the 6 speed in, say, a T/A or a Vet. But for a truck or for 1/4 mile sprints, give me an auto... and yup, a 700r4... As I said 100+ posts ago on this thread, I've seen them work and I've seen them fail. In MY experiances, I would chalk most of the failures up to inexperiance mechanics. I've wheel with a muncie 4sp and with an auto... I prefer the auto for wheeling.
