I just bought a M1010 CUCV. It has 4.56 gears and a th400 tranny with stock tires. I don't even feel comfortable driving 55 with the diesel screaming.

Should I swap the 700R4 from my other truck into it to get overdrive. This would also give my trail truck a stronger trans.

Will this swap even be a direct swap or do you need to change output shafts?

Thanks for any help.

Mark

If you had a diesel 700/208 combo, it could work easier as the t/c in the cucv is a different spline count (32) vs the one in your trail rig hooked to the 700r4 (27).

How rare are the 700/208 combos that were behind diesels? I wonder why they made different slpines for the same combo.

I would think that the deisel 700 208 combos would have been more prevelent in blazers.

You need to measure the whole combo tranny and tcase together from the bellhousing bolts to the rear u-joint yoke. For instance i had a 400 to np203 and switched to a 700-203-205 and overall length with adapters and everything was 1 inch longer. On your setup, you need to measure the Cucv's th400-208 combo then measure the 700r4-208 combo to see where things will line up. You cant just swap the tranny, you must swap the tcase as a combo.

Yeah I'm sure they won't line up and I don't feel like getting new drive shafts. Maybe it'll be easier to buy some skinny 35's and stuff under there.

A lot of guys run the 11.00X 16 Michellin's to get the rpm's to drop to something more tolerable. With 36's the engine would be turning 2580 rpm at 60 mph which isn't exactly terrible...

I'm afraid the 36's may be a little big to run without lift or cutting. I saw some 35's listed on a military tire website. I'll see if I can get a pic cause they didn't look like the would be a good on-road tire.
