I have recently installed a new alternator (105 amps, no load 35 amps, with heater and headlights 70 amps) at the same time I decided to install a new serpentine belt. About a week goes by and a squeak starts to develop from under the hood, I return to the parts store and install a tensioner pulley, works for another week then it starts making noise again. I show the guys in the store that when I lube the bearings of the pulley it stops making noise for a brief moment then returns. At this point I'm really starting to get frustrated with the truck and myself for swapping out the belt in the first place. They tell me that they think the bearings on that pulley are bad so I remove it, take it iside, swap, install, squeek! ****, go and wait 10 minutes to get one of them to come out and do the whole lube thing again. Long story shortened, they send me to another store. So I bring those guys up to speed, one goes out and shoots the belt with dressing and no more noise. That guy hands me the can and says if this doesn't fix it by the time this can is empty then come back here and I'll swap out the belt. Fast forward a few days and so I started to swap the belt, take the old off, swap for a new one, return to the truck to install and I can't get the adjuster to slack off enough to give me room to put the belt on. The bolt keeps spinning because of steel threads in an alum housing. Replaced tensioner and belt and I'm gone, this is Monday night. Last night after leaving my shop I ran 70 miles round trip in 30 degree weather to pick up a snow plow got home unhooked the trailer and ran to the gas station to get pepsi and cigs, kicked the fan on (draws 20 amps) with the blower on high with the headlights on. Aftermarket volt meter drops to 13.5 from 14.2 (only while the fan is switched on) and guess what I heard. So I am wondering if this might be a ground (from battery to motor) or something else?
