Opinions on Green Diamond tires from High-Tec Retreading.

Green Diamond's worth it? (only vote if you have some experience or good reason)?

I had 31" OTR Muds on my '99 cherokee (no green diamond stuff). The traction was great on them. I thought they were even better in the snow than anywhere else. The compound that they use seemed like it was pretty soft hence the reason for good snow performance. I could push my finger into them. The wear was pretty good on them as well, considering the compound and price. Mine were about half worn after 12,000 miles. About 90% of that was on the road though. I will for sure be getting a set for my K5 this spring. I'm going with either the 35's or the 37's. I'm not real excited about the 37's only coming in 16.5's though. :wink1:
 
Sounds very positive. I had a set or retreads once that came on a K5 I bought. They too were very soft and grippy. I put about 5000 miles on them while I had it.

Any idea what the difference between the OTR Mud and the D-Mud is. They look basically the same. You don't think it would be a rubber/compound difference do you?

it could be a compound difference, but the smallest the D-MUD comes in is a 285/75/16 (about a 32") and the biggest OTR mud is a 31"

The OTR muds seem like more of an all-around mud tire (If there is such a thing :rolleyes: ). The tread pattern is a little tighter. They might clog up easier than the D-Muds. The sizes aren't too bad. Up to 35's for 15" rims and 37's for "16.5's.
 
Mounted and fully inflated on a 10" wide rim, they are really close to 35". This is like the equivalent of a radial 36.

You don't have a lot of choice in tread pattern because they are available in different sizes. I don't think any given size has more than one Mud pattern available.

They are pretty quiet.

When you order them, you can choose what kind of tires they are built from. They claim that it doesn't matter, but I still prefer having the same carcasses at all four corners. If you pick something rare it will take longer to get them.

The availability of hummer tires (37x12.5x16.5) at that price almost makes me want to get a set of 16.5" rims.
 
Has anyone had any negative effects from the Green Diamonds? I'm just wondering if there are any tradeoffs to be made by going with them (like studs).

I'm very interested to hear more about these tires myself, sounds like a neat idea. My experience has been that an agresive M&S tread works good in fresh snow but on hard pack snow or ice you need studdded/pinned tires. I would also shy away from the fatties and go with the tall skinny types. Check out the Buckshot Mudders also Kelly has the Safari MSR with studs up to 35X12.50R15. I'm trying to find a set of the Kelly's in 255/85R16 but my choices are limited here and if I order them it coast a hundered bucks to ship 'em...
 
I had mine in 3ft of the dense wet snow on Sat. (no GD in 'em) and was VERRY impressed with the ice traction I was geting from them! And they seemed to do just a little better than any other tire I have had in the same conditions. So far I am VERRY pleased with my set.
