sounds like you need to find a different machine shop, you probally used the same shop on all of your prior engines and they all poped, and you thought it was just your fault or a faulty part and all along it may have been your machine shop blowing those motors for you, thats why i use a shop that regularly builds donovan monsters and pontiac big chiefs along with quite a few nascar and dirt track motors and they guarantee them in the racing environment...so my wild 383 seems tame to them!!
Yeah, I've had bad luck with a couple shops. Won't be going back. Wish I could find someone here locally.
1st Engine
Stock 350 TBI
no happy with HP
2nd Engine
383 Carbed
Western Engine in Denver built it
Lost oil pump pickup in pan
My fault on that since I didn't weld the tube
3rd Engine
Used 454
Bad luck and spun a main
4th Engine
GM Crate 454 with peanut port heads
Not happy with HP
5th Engine
496ci (used crate block)
Built by Western Engine
Bad Job on machine work
Spun rod bearings after 3k miles
Western wouldn't offer any warranty since it was custom
6th Engine
540ci
Built by Dyno-Flo in Vegas
Had wrong bearings, not decked correctly
Other experiances with shops:
Pro Built in Denver
Does good work but they had my LS1 for 6 months and never started on it.
Picked it up, sick of waiting
Heads by Paul in Denver
Suppose to be one of the better shops
Installed a piston backwards and a few other no-no's I found.
Anyone know of a REALLY good shop in Denver???
Oh, someone mounted twin supercharges on a C2 vette. Plenty of HP but couldn't keep it cool plus he had no traction.

I'm getting in late but here's my take.
First, I'd be very wary of running a turbo, especially twin turbos, moreover ones mounted directly to the intake manifold, without an intercooler. Yeah, it'd be cheaper, and easier to plumb, but without it thats a crapload of heat going right back into the engine.
Second, unless you're running high rpm mud bogs, drag races, or just tearing up the streets, the turbos won't do you much good. If youre riding trails, I doubt, (unless you're driving like a maniac) I doubt the turbos would even see RPMs high enough to provide boost or power gains.
If you're going for the "cool" factor, it'd be awesome. If you're going for a high RPM application like drag racing or mud bogging, thats a great way to make insane power with not much displacement. But for a trail rig, I wouldn't even consider it an option.

Yeah, I think I'm scrapping the turbo idea. Good power but I'm worried about the heat going up steep highway passes and it would be tough to mount an intercooler where it would't get smashed. Above the motor would be okay but the pluming and mounting sounds difficult.
A supercharger sounds like a better idea but I'm still worried about heat.
For now I'm just building a nice 400 SBC with AFR 190 heads and I'll see what power I can get out of it. If I'm not happy with HP, then I may stick a supercharger on.
