opinions wanted please: sun roof placement in a 79\'

I'd like to see someone make a Targa Top. That would be cool /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif I personally think if you do it right and replace the seals when they get old, then the roof over the front seats will be fine. Then you could always pop the top and the sunroof sometimes and be more open air. /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

Ive 'read' this is a bad idea due to the body flexing.

I'd really like to tackle this one at some point. But I do agree that some sort of roll bar type reinforcement should be done.

Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled program.

Good luck to y'all in the future.

I've got a power sunroof in my 84. Made by "Webasto."
I do a lot of 4 wheeling and off roading. Up lava river beds, over boulders that are large and up embankments, etc. and never had a problem with flexing or leaking. My buddy also has a sunroof in his 89 K5 and no problems.

The past owner of mine put a sun roof in and now I'm thinking of ways to get rid of it. I would like to be somewhat shaded but this thing makes me feel like I'm under a magnifying glass. I could black it out but I may take it out and fill it back in with sheetmetal

Re: opinions wanted please: sun roof placement in a 79\'

I'm one of the ones that think sunroofs are a bad idea, from personal experience.

Even if you don't have body flex issues, they leak. If you don't care about the vehicle, then no problem.

If you've got a removable top anyway, I don't really see the point in a sunroof. Yes, it's a pain to remove, it also doesn't leak like a big hole in the roof will.

There was a picture on here of a truck that wasn't twisted up very bad at all, and the roof was wrinkled right across the center. Mine isn't a heavy duty 4 wheeler by any stretch of the imagination, and you can hear the body wrinkle as I go over any sort of obstacle, besides the typical door movement issues.

Just a personal opinion, so do what you want, just hate to see a nice truck (if it is, no offense, I just don't know) ruined with a sunroof.

I was a Remove-a-top pop-up sunroof installer during the 80's...
I had the largest pop-up they made in my 79'...
To install it..I had to cut the inside sheet metal on the inside of roof panel..

I had the top in for over 10 years...
and never saw a drop of water... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
