My truck suffered some body damage this past weekend. Damn trees, anyway, I bought a suction cup dent puller from the Zone but I know there is more to pulling dents then just putting this thing on and pulling. I've heard pulling on the suction cup AND using body hammers in key locations of the dent to persuade the dent to pop out is often necessary. Can somebody break down the mechanics of dent pulling? How do I determine the sweet spot to smack it with the hammer and pull with the cup?

I not sure I can break down the mechanics portion of it, but in general if it is damaged enough to crease it your are screwed. Those big oil cans after they crease the panel will not pop back out. The smaller ones will usually move some what if you can get directly behind them. I have found that pulling in the middle and tapping around the edges to try and get it started helps.

I do have some creases but only on one side of the dents. I expect to have 'scars' even after I pull them out but would like to at least get the BIG dent out. Good info on tapping around the edges. Thanks! Any body else wanna chime in?

Where is the dent? Most of the body you worm a flat basket ball into and pop big dents out. Removing a crease borders on artistry.

Well Grim, I am an artist but not this kind. Dent locations (the big ones anyways) passenger side quarter panel right in front of the rear fender at the bottom of the truck, it's just pushed in about 4-5 inches which leaves a small crease a few inched above the lower trim line. Basketball trick wouldn't work here as there is nothing to back it up against. Second dent is in the passenger door. Verticle dent right down the middle (tree). This is the second time I've cruched this door and it happened in the same exact spot as last time. (rocksliders needed) I was able to get the dent out the first time only leaving a small crease just above the top trim. The crease is bigger and pushed in a little more this time and the bottom of the door is only subtly creased. Last time I just took off the door panel and pushed it out. This time I'm thinking it might be a little trickier cuz of the slight crease in the bottom.

On the dent near the fender I know I won't be able to simple bend the metal back by hand so I may try hooking the come-along to the handle of the cup and try getting enough force that way. May be a bottle jack on it's side with some wood could do it.

I get a little body damage about every time I go out. What I get most is tree bites.I dont worry about pulling dents cuz I know that if I got a dent there once I will probably bump a tree in that spot again. The only thing I do about the dents is to take rubbing compound and rub off the tree bark .If I hit something and it goes down to the metal I will touch it up with spray paint.

I hear ya, but my truck is pretty clean for being a 76 and I'd like to keep it that way. I've all ready talked to a fabricator out here and he said he'd make me some sliders with extensions out the side for door protection for about 150. That's gonna be my next purchase. Oh...and thats powdercoated too.

I've pushed dents out by hand, one good push and out it pops. This works well if you have good access to the backside of the dent and can brace yourself.

Rock sliders that stick out a little farther than the door are a good idea and $150 dont sound too bad.Iv got sliders but they are 1"x1" square stock and bolted to the lip on the bottom of the body. They can support the weight of the truck with out bending up the body but offer no door protection. My next ones will be different.
