i just ordered these rims:

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=USW-78-5080R&N=700+0&autoview=sku

they are unpainted:crazy:, and i will fit my 44'' tsl's on them, i plan on putting airsoft beads in the tires to help balance them and i am worried the airsoft bb's will act like a mild media blaster as they rotate around the tire and hit the inside of the rim, stripping regular paint and setting up rust inside of the tires, could i use masking tape on the bead seat area, and paint the inside of the rim with herculiner or some like product to make a tougher coating to keep the airsoft's from acting like a media blaster and stripping regular paint off inside of the rim and setting up rust? outside of the rims will be painted with aluminum colored paint! any ideas?

Except at real slow speeds, the airsoft bb's would be riding on the tire because of centrifugal force. I would say run something like a wrinkle coat sprayed over zinc and primer. Should help prevent rust. However at slower speeds the bb's are not hard enough to really damage the paint.

x2 I agree, i cant see them doing that much damage. I think you should paint the wheels black.:D

Having had several freinds who have used real bbs not just airsofts I can tell you there is a little damage to the paint but no rust whatsoever. If they get down through the paint enough to set up rust they usually don't let the bare metal sit long enough untouched to let rust take hold.

thats right. If it does scratch off the paint, it will keep eroding in the same manner keeping any rust from forming. And like they said, the airsoft pellets are too soft to do any damage to the paint.

I don't see airsoft pellets doing any damage to paint as long as it's prepped, primed, and coated properly.

What type of paint are you planning on using on the wheels? I'm assuming you're going black? What I'm wondering is how well paint will hold up to rocks and dirt and what not when wheeling. I want to paint my wheels this spring, but I'm afraid after I go through some mud and get them dirty, the paint will chip and peel.

im using airsoft pellets, which are like a hard plastic compound, wont cause any damage to the rims. i sanded my rims down to bare metal and used a good primer and then spray painted them with about 3 coats and they came out great

Would these wheels fit without having to grind calipers? I just bought brand new tires for 15" wheel, but am about to swap in 14bff and d44, really did not want ot try to sell the tires and lose money.

I think i just found my new wheels :D

I'll get them powdercoated though ;)

Sorry to hijack but will powdercoat mess up the way the tires seat any??
