I currently have a 203 and was wondering, roughly what is would cost if I were so inclined down the road to switch out Transfer cases. After installing that 203 last week it’s something I dont reeeeally want to do again.

So if it poops out or whatever Id like a game plan for options. Other than fixing and re-installing.

I have a TH350 and see that the np208 or np241 are my best options.

What does one need in order to make this switch to either of these Tcases and what would make the most sense for a moderate build for moderate off road usage?

I assume cross member, tranny adapter, drive lines, shifter?

in a th350 with a 203 or 205 the trans has a super shout output tail shaft .

the 208 or 241 will require a tear down of the th350 and a tail shaft swap out for the correct length longer one .

this is the minimum info on just getting the trans hooked to a newer t-case .

Yeesh... maybe the 203 aint so bad... hahahaha.
I was just wondering. Thanks.

If the NP-203 is in decent condition and you keep it full of the right lube ,it'll likely outlive the rest of the truck..

If you did decide to swap out to a different T-case,I would look for both the transmission & T-case off a salvage yard donor or craigslist, many around here being parted out due to rust are selling for close to scrap price as a "good working drive train"...then you'll have the correct tail shaft, adapter for the T-case,etc..

It's not going to die

This. They survive with proper maintenance. And with you only doing "moderate four wheeling" it will probably survive just fine offroad.

As was mentioned before, you would probably be better off swapping the trans/tcase combo from a donor truck. A 700r4/208 combo is pretty easy to find. 700r4 is a fine trans as long as the TV cable is adjusted properly and throw a few upgrades at it. You will gain OD, you will gain a lower 1st gear that what the th350 has, and you will gain a lower low range in the t-case plus they shift so easy. The 241 is a little better than the 208, but they aren't as easy to find with a passenger side drop

Oh and when searching for a 241, 1989 is the only year they are equipped with a mechanical speedo housing and speedo cable. 1990 and 91 are Vehicle speed sensor equipped. So 1989 is the year you want if you are swapping it into an older vehicle.

Like others said the 203 won't fail again.
Probably.
I've only dropped the trans with the 203. Cause I knew how heavy & awkward they are. If there is a next time drop them both.

If for any reason it has to come down, I will reinstall as one unit next time... The weight and angle are an f-ing nightmare to deal with. If youre a big guy who can manage the weight Im sure its not such a big deal, but we all cant be Dolph Lundgren

Foolish me, I was adding oil which is a slow and tedious process even with my totally boss homemade funnel.
Oil started coming out the front.... I forgot one screw on thr adaptor. Doh...

BTW, having poured many gallons of gear lube into my various truck's 205s using all sorts of methods, I saw something the other day that made me wish I was still able to work on my stuff. Almost.....
I run Amsoil in everything, and was in my friend's auto shop where he has an Amsoil display. There, sitting on a bottom shelf looking all innocent were several plastic bags of Amsoil gear lube with plastic tapered nozzles.
You simply take off the cap, cut the nozzle to the desired opening, put it in the fill hole, and squeeze the bag.
I'm sure that other oil companies will follow suit, and may already be doing so. Heck, Amsoil probably isn't even the first.
When I think of all the funnels, plastic pumps that fit gear lube bottles and come apart one quart short and gear lube baths I have had trying to change the oil in my transfer case after a deep water crossing..........

Thats probably the only thing I never tried. But this blows them all away.....

Interestingly, in some weights the bag is cheaper, some its more expensive than a quart bottle, and some the same price. I suspect it will be the same in all weights fairly soon.

Huh--I would think those bags would be easy to get punctured in shipping..
I bought a suction gun to put gear oil on things long ago--and promptly lost it..found it about a year later, outside, hanging from a tree branch, where I had hung it to let the remnants of the oil to drain out..
It was pretty rusted on the outside--but inside it was still oily and in good condition..used it a few more times, now I don't know where I left it again..its in my garage..somewhere..
