I've recently discovered some small cracks in my frame rail around the
steering box. I guess at this point I should purchase the weld on repair kit that ORD offers to fix that. What I'm wondering is if i purchase the repair kit will i still be able to use my bolt on brace from them?

Yes, you can use both and I would use both if you are seeing cracks now. Fix the cracks, weld on the repair kit and use the bolt on kit also.

I have heard about drilling a small hole at the ends of the crack before but certainly using a grinder to create a "V" and welding is the way to go. So if your welds are good drilling the hole won't hurt;)

All said by a guy (me) who doesn't weld but has read about it a lot:rolleyes::bow:

Yes, drilling a hole at the end of the crack creates a stopping point, the crack can't travel any further. V-groove the cracks, fill weld them up then weld in the repair plate

I just installed both braces on my rig.... Its a pretty straight forward install... ORD has the weld in brace on back order so i got mine from wheel parts .

What they all said. My 1st k5 I had just the weld on kit, it worked but the frame still flex. On my current k5 I have both, and the steering is tighter then ever.
