So I'm apparently not as smart as I thought I was. Tried installing my new extended brake lines today and I can't figure out where the little tension clip goes now. I thought it was just an easy swap. I tried searching for a pic or a write up, but I'm coming up short. Anyone know? It's a '90 K5 with a milsurp D60 up front. I will post a pic of what it looks like to this point. Thanks in advance for any guidance.

The clip was on the hard line side when I took it off. It looks like it would go back on the same way if I could push the snap ring up flush to the mounting tab, but the "barrel" that passes through the tab won't go any farther. I'm stuck.

i had to hog out the hole in the bracket just a bit, so the snapring would sit up against the bracket flush..

Ok so at least I'm not losing my mind. I started just to do that, but then I thought I better ask someone who knew for sure before I removed any metal.

Thanks for the help Ryoken. I'll bust out the dremel tomorrow and make a little room.

well, that was at the end of a pretty psycho week long wrench session, so i may have been a bit "frayed" at that point... but iirc, it worked fine.. :haha:

No doubt. I hear ya on that. Usually I just walk away from it for a while when I start getting frayed nerves, but in this case, it's gotta go back together one way or the other, so I'm gonna spool up the dremel and not look back.

hmmm, i just ran out and snapped a blurry pic... I'm not running that nut on the backside...

hogged the hole a bit so the shoulder section next to the snapring would fit thru the hole.. than that exposes the groove for the clip to retain/tighten it on the backside.. i think... :haha: hasn't given me any issues..

Now that you mention it, there wasn't a nut on the back of the stock pieces I took off. Those came with the lines from ORD, so I thought they were required. Thanks for taking the pic though. Definitely helps to see your setup.

not sure if i got those.. i bet they would work fine too.. hog it out, than run the nut all the way down tight to the bracket in place of the clip...

I think it is anyway. I remember putting the clips back in the bag and tossing them in the garage. The line is snug and not going anywhere. If someone could explain what they are for, I'll probably put them on, otherwise I don't see a reason to.

Wish my truck was here, I'd take a close up.

i'm sure one of our ORD brethren will chime in at some point.... mine could be wrong, i thought it odd that i needed to hog it out... as i said, long week.. :haha:

you're going to kill someone with your brake system, mickey mousing clips hijinks :haha::zombie5:

brake hard lines need to be secure or thay will vibrate and crack at some point much faster than if thay were left loose. its got to do with harmonics.

and in my state if not secure to frame / body thay will fail inspection.

its brakes why half ass it  bad things can happen if not done correctly. :doah:

who's talking about 1/2assing it? mines fine the way it is...

that's just it, mine are VERY secure, so what is the clip for? My lines are tight to the frame mount :dunno: Ugg, wish I didn't feel like I was talking out of my ass. Need a picture :doah:

the clip is how the factory hose is retained to the bracket... i don't remember seeing nuts like the first pic in my kit, so i just found a way to reuse the factory clip...

The spring clips are how the factory secured the brake lines. The large nuts are how the aftermarket hoses from ORD are secured. You dont have to use both. Just use the nuts. They are better anyway. Enlarge the hole slightly so the fitting fits flush and you are good to go with the nuts. Clips can be saved for something else.
