Any hints to installing a ORD shackle flip in a 3/4 ton 1990 Suburban. Do you have to lower the tank? Any tips or tricks.

I had to lower my tank on my 89 suburban. Main thing is make sure your tank is empty... obviously. Other than that the install is pretty straight forward. The holes lined up perfectly after opening them up a little just like it says in the install instructions.

Dropping the tank and getting the rivets out were the toughest for me. Found with the rivets to make an X with a cutoff wheel, chisel the heads off, then punch the rivets out (or pry off the hanger with a pry bar, should come off pretty easy). Air tools makes this a lot easier I suppose, haven't done it without. A torch works well tho. Other than that it's just bolt up and go

My Harbor Freight air chisel works good enough, in case you want to buy one. Helps to cut the rivet head in half, chisel one side at a time. And yes, tank has to come out.

My suggestion is to literally run it out of fuel before you drop the tank. I dropped mine once and even though the gauge read E, there was still just under 1/2 tank left.

I just about blew out my O-ring when that beast fell on top of me as I was lowering it down. :eek1:

I'm doing one as soon as the weather warms up a little. On mine, thankfully, the nuts are welded to backing plates. I'm hot gluing the plates to a wooden yard stick. Once the bolts are started they will push the yard stick off the nut plate. Rinse and repeat, that's the plan anyway.

Worst part of dropping the tank for me is getting the hoses on and off. They must install them in the factory with the body off or something. I installed longer hoses and it was not a big deal the second time.
