And they can be a pain to install. Softer, longer travel springs compress more under the weight of the truck. Lots of ways to expand the spring but sounds like you have it figured out
Stick of wood method was a little easier, and didn't shred the paint off my new shackles.
Springs are now installed, and new-to-me 14-bolt is in place.
I noticed that the bolt for the shackle is very close to hitting the hanger when the shackle is forward, like during install. The ORD shackle itself hits the lip of the hanger when forward. I'm not sure if the amount of droop required to bring the shackle so far forward will happen in real life. Anyone know if it's necessary to shave the hanger and/or trim the bolt?
I have the 6" springs and ended up mounting the rear of the spring to the shackle then hooking a ratchet strap to around the front of the srping thenbusing the body mount at the front as a ratchet point. Just ratcheted the spring in place. Pretty easy.
My shackles also rub the brackets when at full droop but that would happen no matter what. I don't think mine will ever droop that far once everything is together.
