I just installed the ord bolt on steering box brace and only used the big brace and not the smaller one that goes in front. I have an 89 jimmy and it has a small brace in that spot already and from looking at it seems to be a pretty good factory brace so I left it alone and did not change it out. Is the small ord brace really any better than that stock one? Should I change it out or just leave it? Only 32x11.50 tires on stock alloy 7 in rims and 2.5 in lift. Some offroading but nothing major.

You should be fine.
The Big part of ORD brace is the biggest part of the success of that brace.

You can run both. I've put both braces on the two times I've installed one. Little bit less room to work with but can be done easily enough.

That said several folks have mentioned not running the small ORD brace like you did and having no troubles.

I run both the factory and ord braces.

I figure the factory brace will work just fine but I dont like not using things I paid for
