do I need a 2wd steering box for it? I thought I read that you did need one somewhere ,but they didn't mention one at ORD.
just need clearification. thanX

O this is for a D-60 going in a 76 K-5 6in lift

Yep, either a 2wd box or a 2wd sector shaft.

EDIT: Wow, I replied in the same minute...I don't have a life.

Yes, like posted above, either a box or the shaft. Also I would do both the weld on and bolt on steering box braces at the same time. Crossover puts a ton of stress on it and that is just cheap insurance to keeping it from ripping the box off the frame.

you must have missed it. just above the tech section in the catolog listing for this setup it listes 2x4 box needed.

dont fret it happens to all of us.

2wd GM steering box: This is required because the factory 4wd shaft will not allow you to use a pitman arm necessary for side to side motion of the steering. ORD is now stocking the WTO steering boxes, pumps and Redneck Ram hydraulic assist systems.

ORD High Steer and crossover kits use heavy wall 1020 DOM tubing, strong and durable HD tie rod ends and the best possible construction techniques. This quality will take you through the trails you want to run and back again. We won't build anything less.

my lines were in bad shape.. didnt want to snap them so I just swapped shafts and put the 2wd pitman arm on... that is it and all works good

so this may be a real nooby question, but why couldnt we just turn the pitman arm a 1/4 of a turncounter clockwise? then it would have side to side movement? why wouldnt this work?

The 4wd shaft won't allow you to index the pitman arm like that, hence the need for the alternate setup.

What he said.
The 4wd one only goes on 1 way.The splines are not the same all the way around, like on an axle.

Go with both the ORD box brace and the weld on frame kit. Ask me how I know. I have recomended it to everyone I see after using them.

4x4 box is push pull style with 1/4 of shaft splined.

2x4 box is left right turn style and full spline with 4 way key.

the boxes turn oposet of each other.

and yes get a box brace to save the frame.
