Ok I am going to mount this 4-6' back under my bed.. facing rear...
I need to figure out what to mount it to between the frame rails...

I did find this... but doesnt look that sturdy....

so should I just take 3/8 plate steel and make my own? drill holes into it and mount to the bottom of my frame?
I am planning on putting steel on the sides and front... so only the top and back will be open... cut a hole in the bed (hinged) so I can clean it out.....

what do you all think? or what would you do?
Thanks
Jeff

crap I found the bigger one 36" which is what I need...

and it is only rated at 5000-9500 lbs.. guess I am going to have to make something...

You should really make it out of 3/8" so it doesn't tweak the winch.

You do know you're going to be fighting the cable all the time having the fairlead so far from the winch, right?

how would having the fairlead far away make it hard to use the cable. i'm not saying you're wrong, i just don't see how that would be. i don't know much about winch cable dynamincs. :doah:

I figured if the winch is 6' under the bed... and i mount the fairlead in the bumper some how.... the cable will pull straight back and shouldnt pose a problem..... am I wrong? my goal in the future is to cut the bed and frame to the rear spring perches.... making a shorter frame and bed... so want to keep the winch back a bit....

but I am definitely going to go with 3/8 plate and some re-enforcement.... just hope the frame can take the pressure :doah:

Plan where your going to be cutting the frame for shortening now, and put in some frame gussets in front and behind the winch mounts on the frame.
