Just as a referance I have been looking at shocks all morning and I found it very confusing to find which shocks I needed untill AJMblazer showed me this chart. Just go here to the table and find your year and amount of lift you have and then you can find the MFG# for your front and rear shocks. Either the 8000 series or 9000 series.

Then go here and click the "item details" link and scroll down until you find the matching MFG# to the correct shocks and order away:thumb:

I dont know if its really neccesary to make a thread but I figured it was something that I was having trouble with so maybe someone else is too.

I've also called Rough Country's tech line and given them the dimensions I was looking for along with my application and then they gave me a part number to use. Take that number to JCWhitney and cross reference it as he said.

I had some shocks meant for a Ford Bronco on the front of Big Ugly but they bolted on and worked great.

The Monroe/NAPA truck shocks actually cost more than the Rough Country/Heckethorn shocks now. Only the economy line is cheaper anymore.

Also through JC whitney they had the code up top to enter during checkout, anything over $50 is free shipping. So I got them for actual price:thumb:

Sign up for their mailings. They're throwing discounts out all the time. I rarely buy stuff from them but when I do I can almost always get a discount on it somehow.

Shock Warehouse, full set (front and rear) of Monroe Gas Magnums. $150.00 to the door and they are good shocks i run them and have no complaints.

The lift companies sometimes sell scratch and dent shocks on ebay as well.

Just remember that with shocks you get what you pay for.

A few years back I bought the cheapest shocks I could get, Superlift brand. They were certainly an improvement from no shocks but that's the best I can say about them, having run 5125 Bilsteins since there is no comparison.

Super cheap shocks are better than nothing but when you try good shocks you won't go back :pimp:

I agree the bilstein's are better but popping for $320+ sometimes isn't in the picture for a daily driver for some shocks. Some decent nitro charged shocks at a low price will do wonders for a daily driver that does part time work as a weekend toy.

Bilsteins are great.

However I can't afford $70+ per shock for the STOCK REPLACEMENT shocks. It's $95 each if I go with the front additional quad shock units.

Both are twin tubes. The nice extra feature of the Rough Country Nitro 9000's are that they are monotubes.

What is there longest shock the 9111¿ is it 14IN TRAVEL? It is the one listed for 8-10in lift

14" travel is about the longest you'll find for an off-the-shelf cheaper shock, that's way more travel than most suspensions can use.

I gave my opinion before about shocks, that is my un-biased "I-don't work-for-ORD" opinion.

My rig has been a trailered, hardcore rock crawling only rig for a while. I tried it with no shocks for a trip or two (poor college kid) and it sucked bad so I bought cheap shocks, which was a night and day difference.

My Blazer is soooooo ready for links and coils in the front but I won't have the time until next year.

Having used decent shocks now, I wouldn't go back but my use is probably a little more rough than many would put thier trucks through

No one in this thread is claiming these are better than Bilsteins. Hell, I usually mention that specifically. However they seem to be "3/4 of a Bilstein for half the price". Not to mention better than pretty much anything else at the sub $45 per shock price point.

my 87 came with 2 shocks in front, kit came with only 2 for the front.are you guys runnin 2 up front per side still?or single now? BTW`dueling, this is a great thread man!

Dual shocks aren't necessary unless you are truly beating the hell out of it at high speeds offroad. Basically to the point you'd almost require a better suspension.

The dual shock setup is from 20+ years ago when shock technology sucked and OEM put tiny little shocks on. They needed dual shocks to combat the sway up front from the weight of a 6.2L diesel and/or a snow plow or "offroading".

With modern aftermarket shocks of a wider diameter than stock the quad shocks are redundant. I've run one ACDelco Premium on each side up front for 2 years and wouldn't go back to doubles for anything.

Agreed with AJ, I took the duals I had off about a year ago after putting my lift in, and it actually rides a lot better.

That's partly because the factory setup, and SOME aftermarket shocks, have different shocks for the quad setup. The extra shock is valved/setup as basically an additional shock with less dampening than the primary.
A lot of the aftermarket shock makers just have two "Regular" shocks in there. The normal shock they'd run and then some other shock that happens to be the right length for the additional location. Basically giving you twice the dampening on each front corner...ie too much.

Mines much less bumpy without the quad shocks. Does look cool with them on though:D
