hello all,

just a question, is there a way to find the color of the k5 that came out of the factory? after 40+ years you can not rely on the code which is int he glove box if it is already there (not anymore in mine)

is it possible using the VIN number?

I don't think it is in the VIN. There are books and charts with factory colors by year. My local NAPA has them, (they mix paint, not all do) and I was able to find colors. There were not tons of colors so you should be able to figure out the color code for your year. There are also some charts online if you look around.

Did you end up finding out your answer? I purchased Chevy's original marketing brochure for the 1987 K5 off of ebay. This told me all the different color schemes available for that year as well as some other good information. You may want to try that.
