Wondering if this is an original spare from a 78 K5. It is the Firestone Deluxe Champion tire.

Code is on the rim by the valve stem hole as well as some of the information on the face or the wheel.
Format is:
K1y m (Valve Stem Hole) dd aa
where:
K = Kelsey-Hayes
1 = Romulus, MI wheel plant
y = calendar year
m = month
dd = day
aa = application code

So if I understand correctly the rim was made on 12/17/77 and is application code XU.

Here are the rim markings.

So if I understand correctly the rim was made on 12/77 and the tire was made in the third week of 1978. So this must be an original spare tire and rim for a 78 K5 Blazer. Rather cool.

I found this information also for reading the date codes on a pre 2000 year tire.

Pretty cool, hang it on the wall. Dont use as spare

I think my spare is from ‘87, will have to check. Will work to roll it up a flat bed, but wouldnt trust it for any road use.

I need the wheel rim. I'm going to mount a BFG KO2 tire on the rim and use it as a spare.

As for the original tire. I don't have the space for it. Maybe it has some value.

It is interesting that it takes about three months from when a rim is manufactured to when a new tire is installed at the factory. This is a west coast K5 so there would have been some shipping time to the Fremont factory from the Romulus, MI wheel plant.

I do have an original spare from a late 80's truck. Still got the tire nubs on it. I was going to use it for the wheel. Sad to trash a brand new tire like this.
