ORU's 4 wdb master cylinder upgrade for our trucks

camsk5 said:
Eric... Im doing them together...its what they recommended....
motor is out right now on the stand waiting to go in so I think Ill do the install as soon as they arrive since there is a nice big hole there right now!!!

Cam,

Last I read you were selling everything - axles, motors, body parts the works ... and I thought most were from the 89. Do you have a second 89, or did you change your mind!?

I parted the forest service build up..... I still have the low mile crewcab :D

We just took a 8 k road trip around the US in it... when we got back momma said she liked travelling and we could upgtrade to a new CTD.... but Im having second thoughts... the 89 crew only has 50k original miles on it now and Im sinking a bundle in it in upgrades of just about every system....
so for now Im keeping it...

and if I didnt have a ktruck

I would miss ck5 :p:

ps I also keep reading TDR carefully and how everyone is so disappointed in new trucks.... we might even consider a medium duty

ME too... Ill let you know...I even tried to figure that out from their picture,,,, couldnt get it accurate enough.... because with that number then I can probably figure out what it fits

OK, that clears it up.

If your engine is out and you are a ways out from being able to test this "new master", I can be the guinea pig.

I have four 4wd GMs which all have D60 fronts and the rear 13" x 3.5" drums (either on a Dana 70HD or 14 Bolt). All have hydroboost and all have EGR front brake pads (carbon kevlar). The trucks are running from 32" to 36" tires.

I'd like to try just the master first without the prop. valve. If this new valve is for a 4wdb set up, I'm thinking it may cause early rear brake lock up. With the set ups I have now, I need to run the height sensing rear valve to cut down on rear wheel lock up anyways. I'd try the prop. valve next and see what that does.

I'm thinking ORU just dug up a master that has larger bores but fits our style hydroboost and brake lines. It could be off of anything from a F450 to a front control Isuzu Med. Duty truck. I guess I can understand why they don't want to share the part number. We are paying for all the time they spent looking for such a master ...not the master itself.

Cam, on a side note, give the EGR front pads a try. I heard about these years ago but dismissed them when I found out they cost $200. When I purchased my 91 V2500 Burb, I put on new tires that measured a true 33.1". The truck didn't stop very well and I had gone through the entire brake system. After a few close calls, I decided to upgrade to 1 ton axles for the brakes. With the stock master and vac. asisit, it was a bit better, but not much. I was torn between trying hydroboost or EGR pads. I did EGR only because it was easier. What a difference, I was amazed. I dropped $600 on 3 more sets for the other trucks. I did end up doing the hydroboost on the Burb, and didn't notice much of a difference. The truck stopped pretty well already ... maybe the hydroboost with stock pads would have had the same effect, I never pulled them off to see. I will say that my 82 with hydro and 36" tires did stop better with the EGR pads (not like with stock 215 / 85R 16 tires, but better). EGR is at 1 800 468-2279.

Let me know if you want me to be the test rat for ORUs stuff.

It's you and Allan 'MtExplorer' that are drying up the D60 supply for the rest of us! :haha:

... course, yours are prolly all DRW fronts. :D

Forgive me for the stupid question, but what does "4wdb" mean? I get the 4wd part, it's that extra b that I'm drawing a blank on...

I working my tail off making my truck purdy... got the big block all built but it will take two days just to get all the smog stuff purdy and new and back on... its amazing how many bolts there are on our trucks.... slowly swapping them out for grade 8 (because I have a stock) takes forvever

as to giving you my new hi dollar master :D um... give me a couple of weeks and Ill get it together for a road test!!!

good call on doing the master first and then trying the proportioning valve...Ill
resist putting it in while there is still that nice hole in the engine bay and I can look at it....instead of lying under it:crewcab: :crewcab:

Well, I wasn't thinking you'd give me your master, I was planning on buying my own ... but I like your idea better! I didn't know you already had it, so, I'll wait to hear from you, no sense in both of us wasting money if it doesn't do much.

What size tires will you be running? Is your 89 a single or dual rear wheels?

I fear I'm getting a reputation around here!

I named my cat Dooley ... but I guess that only proves your point.

No kidding,

Dooley ... the Cat

Oooooooooh. Cute little booger! I think I have a special place in my heart for redheads ... my ex (a redhead) kept the red cat.

Well, which way do you want the bore to go? A smaller bore would apply more pressure to the brakes. Remember the fundamental of hydraulics has to do with the ratio of the two piston sizes. A larger bore would move more fluid and get your pedal higher. To do both would take some tricks like "quick take-up" (whatever that is).

Let me add that I have a SRW and a DRW matching set laying in the driveway here at home along with the SRW set under my truck. :haha:

Looking at this pic I think he's in trouble. Shear tomfoolery is what I see in the heart of that cat. BTW, take it for drives while it's young. Friends used to have a cat that liked nothing better than going camping.

And to get back on topic:

BT,DT. FWIW I used to work in R&D Engineering for Wilwood. It is a delicate balance btwn a firm pedal that doesn't have excess travel and a mushy pedal that has too much travel. That is why I'm curious what the bore size is. The presense of a booster throws a unknown varible into the equation as you can use a larger to much larger bore than w/o a booster. How much boost determines how much larger.

This is a sleeper truck.... it looks ALL stock... except for the eagle wheels (16 inch)
Its underneath that it has all the mods and a bazillin dollars
1989 v3500 crew dually 3 + 3.....bb/th400/205

It never goes off road... well maybe down fireroads...
it pulls momma... the critters and the desert fox...

but 4 x4 sure is nice when its gets slippery (like in montana on our way back across the U.S.... we camped on a wilderness fireroad and it was dry... later that night it stormed and it was nice an gooey when we got up.... 2wd wouldnt have made it with the trailer)

Yep....let me road test the master and see if it really makes a difference.... and if we can deciper what this thing fits they say is magic....
give me 30 days....
it should be a good test as all the brakes are brand new, 0 miles..... and I know what the old ones were like.... towing heavy was scary

My truck is named "The Big Red Micky Wagon" and yes my wife has a micky print as the headliner.... laugh and Ill give you a hawaiian punch :D

I wouldn't think of it ... Mickey!

Post up when you hit the road, I'm very curious about this thing. If it is a different master, if they were able to track it down, so should we. This is half the fun of this hobby.
