Where is a good place to look other than craigslist.

Browsing through random cities trying to find a decent k5 to start restoring/taking over offroad duties, lets just say is annoying.

Autotrader adds seem way overpriced. Maybe I am just thinking outside the box, but I should be able to get a non running k5 that needs work for 1500 ish.

Seems everyone wants 2k even if its in parts, has holes through the body, or hasn't run in 10 years.

Where do I start?

That helps a little. Found a 90 with a bad motor in iowa for 500 bucks. Thats what I was hoping to find.

Check greatlakes4x4.com

it's a little closer to home for you and sometimes you can find some nice rigs for a decent price.

I do check it often, there is a 91 on there no lift stock with 176k with typical mi rust. 4 grand... Way too much

Agreed, way too much. I have seen that one on there. For 4k with those miles, it should be dawn near rust free.

although it may not fly in the bigger auto part chain stores, id let the guys behind the parts counter know you in the market for one incase they hear/know of one and could pass on your number

Also if you are in a smaller town and know some shops in the area just stop in and drop a note of what you are looking for. Also don't be afraid of creating signs and taping them up on for sale/ wanted boards around the town. Not sure if you have them or not but I know up here they are in just about every shop and small corner store around.

If you don't have to shop local start calling junkyards in the southwest for bad motor/trans cases. Pay 500 for the truck and 1000 for shipping and save yourself the rust aggravation.

I don't mind a little rust, I just do not want to replace every body panel. I may even consider a front end dinged up k5. I have a good k5 frame, just no body, or title. Replacing rockers is no big deal as it will probably get square tube instead of sheet metal. I put the word in at 2 local yards see what they come up with.

Good luck. If you hear of any good deals after you find yours, or even any decent K5s that you pass on let me know. I'm gonna be in the market in a couple months.

Will do, I'm in no rush, I have to sell a few things off my current rig before anything happens. Just started searching, and thought there has to be a better way.

There have been quite a few decent K5's up around my area lately....even on craigslist. This morning there was a 88 (I think) with no axles or suspension. Asking $600, had a soft top too...gone before I could get out to look at it. I looked a long time for mine before I finally found it. I second the comment about making a road trip to find a clean one. They're out there around here....but you'll pay a premium for a good one.

On a side note, I get down to Pinckney about twice a year. Know a dog breeder that uses our husky for a stud for her dogs. Just over an hour and a half drive from my place.

Also try searching jimmy. just "k5", Chevy 4x4. SUV. Even try spelling blazer "blaser" and jimmy "jimmey" "Jimy" you would be surprised how bad some people spell or just don't know what they got.

I'm fortunate to live in the south K5's are abundant for cheap 1500.-5k range I've thought about abandoning mine several times for ones that were further along ......

x2. Most of whats around here is ate up with rust. Had my rust free 88K5 brought in form Pueblo, CO a few months ago. Just got her registered/tagged today :D . First trip out (legally of course  ) was a needed beer run..
