Out of allll the vehicles out there why did you go BLAZER?

Alot of good reasons already but my main reason was the solid front axle. Next few reasons were chevys are easy to work on and the K5 allows me to take 3 friends with me when I go out wheeling.

When I was young lifted k5's got the hot girls:D

Later in life I wanted something that had room, be able to make a U-turn without backing up, and decent mileage (diesel) and could be worked on by myself.

Long and sordid past...

My best friend had one back when we were kids. It was yellow and white two toned. We were both 16, so that would have been around 1980-81, loved cruising around, and wheeling in it.
We used to cruise around listening to the YES with phil collins.
He wrecked it just after 1981
I bought a Black 76 Blazer in early 1985 after I got back from Army basic and AIT. Ended up selling it too because I couldn't ever get it drivable, bad brakes all the way around.(Back before I new what wrenching was all about)
Fast forward to 2000 I dragged home a mid 80's Jimmy frame from Twinfalls ID on one of my many truck driving excursions into the great land-o-spud.
Found out it was bent from a wreck and could not be repaired cheaply. Guy traded me the frame for my 83 blazer body and frame straight across.
I came into a matched set of 3/4 ton axles and dana 24 T-case for a super good price. it's just been down hill from there. about 15 grand all said and done.
It still is not drivable. close, but, not quite. it will rule supreme when done.:doah:

I didn't, I chose a 4 door blazer because it was free :D

I grew up with them. Throughout my childhood it was all my parents would drive. They had 1 of almost every year, maybe two of some. Dad had a 70- copper with a white top, mom had a 72 CST black on black. Those always stayed while others would come and go. We just sold the 72 last year. Sad to see it go- was originally supposed to be my first vehicle, but my 79 that I have had for 12 years was my first and still the last.
When I was 6 I helped dad fix up a 77, blue and white-kept the yellow in the trim- 350 4-speed, that was my first experience working on a car.

I guess you can say it's in the blood

For me I needed a truck that could handle really rough offroad conditions in mud/snow. Also it had to run over deer:D

well mines a k30 but....my dad had a 78k20 growing up, plus we are an all gm fleet. so kinda a natural choice. and its my favorite body style of any vehicle produced.

Always been a fan of Square bodied Chevs as was my father and his father before him, thats when a truck was a truck. Where I live soft tops are only good for 3-4 months of the year, with the blazer I can take the hard top off for the summer and still use it in the winter. The newer trucks are nice and comfy but cannot go the same places as older solid axle trucks. Its also nice driving something different than the average joe. :D:D

I had a zuk, I wanted a cool truck to tow it with, having wheeled with several stock blazers I knew they worked well off road.

So I bought a 73 mostly to tow my zuk with and because its a full convertible,

It ended up being way more comfy and I wrecked and sold the zuk built the blazer, ruined the blazer, bought an 89 parts blazer currently putting my 73 back together with lots o parts from the 89.

Now I have the trucks in my sig and looking for a zuk again :D

Chevy, full size, cool, 4 seats, $500 buy in, parts everywhere, 110 inch wheel base, enough room under the hood for the front shocks and coil overs.

My dad has a 79 that we used to work on all the time when i was little and fell in love with "the beast"...so b4 i turned 16 last year i bought my 85 from a guy down the road for $400 and been driving it since...not to mention :bow:CHEVY:bow:

I grew up in the middle east where FORD was banned so we didn't have the big bronco, and the DODGE ramcharger was rare there, BLAZERS were plentyfull especially becuase the military used them then they were sold to the public.
My brother got the first one a 73 then I got a 74.
We ended up restoring mine using the best parts from the 2.
Too bad after we left, my dad sold it for $750 saying no one wanted to pay more for a gas guzzler.
I cam to the states and the first thing I did was buying a Blazer a 76 this time.
Now I have a full arsenal of chevy trucks and cars, but I do have one Jeep, a full size though 4 door wagoneer.
Hey were did you live in the middle east ?

I bought my blazer because i lived in saudi arabia for most of my child hood my dad was working there his brand new company car was a 78 blazer , we used to go to a place called half moon bay all the expats went there and most of them had blazers.I remember the day my dads friend took us out in his blazer with a lift and huge sand tyres it went up and down these massive sand dunes like they were nothing ! i used to sit on my dads lap and steer his blazer and basically from there on in ive always wanted one ! And for the last four years i had one .My daughters now sit on my lap and steer !I dont plan on selling it EVER ! They have got such a fearce road pressence and they just look bad ass ! Great thread !

Many moons ago (ok, 7 years) I went looking for my first car. I test drove a Jeep CJ7, too small and three other kids had one. Next a Ford pick up, just didn't jive with me, not sure what, but it didn't. Then a diesel suburban, which I actually really liked, but a little much for a teenager. Then a classmate put his 81 K5 up for sale, I told dad, we test drove it, and that was it. $700 down and I had a pimpin' ride. Still have it. Love being able to take the top off, the big V8 power, and tough as nails personality. I've jumped it 5 feet in the air and not a thing wrong.

I'll prolly own several Blazers for as long as I can find 'em.

Road tripped cross country in a buddy's 90 K5. Thought is was a great vehicle. Then went wheeling in Moab with another friend in his 78 K5. I was hooked. Bought a 91 K5 in 1998 w/ 42k miles. DD until 2003 and 166k. Still drive it fairly often and don't plan on selling it. Routine maintenance and it fires right up every time.

Traded a set of brand new wheels and tires ($800) to a buddy for my 71 K5 and made it my wheeling rig. It was ready for the junk yard, but has been brought back to life, at least mechanically. Always thought the first generation was cool and originally planned to restore it, but after putting dents in 2 of the 4 corners and other hard to fix places, it is a dedicated wheeling rig and saves me from having to hack up the 91.

Always been a car guy, Chevy specifically. When the car thing started to interfere with the family thing I decided to get into 4x4s and try that. 90% of the wheeling population up here has the typical cookie cutter Jeep TJ or XJ. That didn't work for me, I have to be different. My first build was an 89 2 door S-Blazer I towed home and put solid axles under before I even drove it. It wheeled great, drove on the road great and was different. Very different cause you just don't see that everyday.

But, I always wanted the removable top, open air feel. Found this 87 Jimmy K5 locally, transplanted from TX, rust free, for 1000 bucks and I HAD TO HAVE IT! It didn't run, couldn't test drive it, t-case was shot and I had only seen pics online and talked to the owner on the phone. Drove 4hrs up to Maine with my trailer, and bought it no questions asked. Dragged it home, got it running/driving and been tinkering and doing basic mods since.

So far it's been a great purchase and I'm patiently waiting for warm weather to take the top off... maybe this weekend, looks like it'll be sunny and almost 50* out! Good enough for me!
