not hunting and fishing but Outdoors anyway. Wife and I taking in a little bow practice and my oldest son showing off moms bow. Everyday he hounds me for a new bow. I have my eye on a couple if they dont want a fortune for them.
Those pics of me shooting the old PSE will be the last ones taken. Just came in from shooting and on the first shot i heard a wierd noise and looked the bow over and both limbs cracked. Guess im on the market for a new bow to go along with a new one for the son.
Oh well it served me well over the years and is due retirement.
Excellent man. Ive got 3 bows for my kids that they can't even shoot yet. Right now they are still shooting the fiberglass bow with the saftey arrows. Im looking at getting a mini genesis maybe for Christmas so they can both shoot with me. I am also gooing to be looking at getting a Genesis Pro for the wife and everyone else that comes to my house and wants to shoot and I will not let them touch my bow!
Looks like it will be Tuesday before my new bow arrives but the sons bow came in. It is a really nice bow and for $150 I dont think you can find a better one.
As for the Genesis bow I believe they are great bows but i have a buddy that used to shoot for Team PSE and now shoots for Team Hoyt and he recommended getting a bow that had a set draw length and solid back wall for my son so that he would learn proper form and have better luck.
I set this bow up at 17" draw length and 10lbs draw weight. He had no problem pulling it back with 15lb with the 65% let off but i want him to get used to it and work on the form.
On another note, it shot very well and at 15yds(the longest shot i let him take) it shot really flat with no drop when set at 10lbs. I was very impressed.
This is a pic of his first shot. It took a little convincing to get him to put his face next to the string. He just knew it would hurt him if he got too close.
Been busy so not much hunting going on yet. Seen a big buck the other day while out with the muzzleloader but he was too far away.
Though i would share a few trail camera pics. I have some video from the trail camera and will try to load it up later. The camera messed up when i switched it from video to pics so i only got a couple of days of pics.
The camera is a Remington Ghost. I bought it at walmart but i dont believe you can buy them there anymore. They had some major problems with the first ones made and didnt get everything straightened out. The only problem i had with mine was that in the movie mode the ir flash would not come on so i got a bunch of vids of darkness. I fixed this by hooking the cam to my computer and downloading a software update from the company. It cam cost about $120 and takes pretty good pics. The only thing i dont like is that it does not sense when it is dark enough to use the flash. The flash only works during a set time(5pm to 7am i think). This isnt a big deal now that time has changed and it is light at 7am but a few weeks ago i got a few pics that were black after 7 am because it was still too dark outside.
I think that buck must have bedded down under the camera that morning and everytime he stood up it took a pic. There were about 5 pics of him at different times from about 5am to 1130am in exactly the same spot.
http://www.chasingame.com/ this is a really good site i found after i bought mine. They do reviews on all the new cameras that come out each year. They didnt give my camera a good review but it works good for me.
Got the bow back out this evening. Saw 2 small 8pts and a monster 10 that i saw when i was putting a stand and the trail cam out Friday. The 10 was 75 yds from my stand coming right down the trail and would have passed within 15 yds of my stand. BUT, some ahole in a road grader decided to drive in on the oil lease road by my stand and do a little dirt work. The buck saw the grader and bolted out of there and ran onto my other property across the road.
Got one of the 8s on the trail camera when i grunted him back in after he passed by the stand. He turned around and came back stopping to rake a few trees on the way.
I got the time set right on the camera but forgot to set the date right when i put the camera out Friday which is why it says 11/8/2008 instead of the 9th. I went out at 1230 today and sat til 6. My butt is a little sore from sitting in the stand so long.
Been to your neck of the woods too. Had fraturnity brothers from Enid, Woodward, buffaloand another from way the hell out in the panhandle of Ok in Guymon. Guymon is a hell-hole. Good hunting all in that area though.
yeah the hunting is great but like most of the rest of the country people are starting to realize that we have great hunting and property prices are getting expensive due to people wanting ground for hunting. I have a key ring with about 50 keys on it to places that i used to be able to hunt and fish the ponds on and probally about half of them are still good and only for fishing. Thankfully my grandad owns about 3000 acres in woods county so until decides he is tired of farming i will have a place to hunt.
