Is there any way to get the race back against the snapring after rebuild? The small brass punch bends, dont want to use the metal one, tried tightening on the axle with no success. What did you do? I know it needs to be back up against the snapring.

I use a large socket on the inner race of the bearing and carefully press the bearing and outer race back against the snap ring.

What do you press it with? The closest thing I have to that is a large socket and a bfh.

When i'm at work i use the press otherwise i use the BFH and it doesn't take much to move it (assuming you did not drive the race way past the snap ring groove).

races

I use a bfh with the old upside down on the new and just beat it in I put bearings and races in all the time here at work and home just pound in wont hurt them any . I have tryied all the "nice proper pta" i have found ball peen hammer just drive them in .

Thanks Scott, this worked. I used an appropriate size race/ seal driver against the bearing. I would have done this sooner but I didnt think you were supposed to drive a race with a bearing intended for use.

You can potentially damage a bearing and or race by "beating on it" but if you're careful about it most times you'll be ok. There isn't much for other options in this case.
