Outer Door Handle Removal

I used the search tool for an answer and, although there was a thread with my problem described, the answer was not what I need.

I'm disassembling my 1990 Blazer to get it ready for paint. When trying to remove the outer door handle I got the handle loose from the door, but can't get the control rod disconnected. The other control rods have plastic clips that pop off to remove the rod. This one, however, has what looks like a metal clip on the end that connects to the latch mechanism. Does anyone know how to get it free? Does the clip have to slide up, or pull another direction? For all I know the rod might disconnect from the handle itself on the other end, but I can't see how. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Russell

To remove the handles on my 84 suburban, there was a metal clip where the rod from the door handle connected to the door latch assembly. I had to gently ply the top of the metal clip out away from the latch and push the clip down. The rod could then be pull out of the clip/latch and removed with the outside door handle assembly. Sounds confusing without a picture but once you get one apart you should see how it works. Let me know if this does not make sense to you or if your handle is different.

Yep, made perfect sense. That just what I needed. It's a challenge to get a screwdriver in there in the right postition.

Thanks for your help, nova!
