Outer Rocker Lineup

I'm trying to line up my outer rocker. With it in as far as it goes there seems to be about a 1 inch gap that creates a trough/channel along the length of the door that just doesn't seem right to me. Is this how it is supposed to be, am I missing something or is the part just crappy? (I couldn't use my old ones for reference as the PO used horrible ones that were all messed up)

That gap is supposed to be there. It is where you can run wires and such. It is covered with the sil plate.
