What is the outside-to-outside tire width of a stock 1973 K5 Blazer?

Is it less than 79 inches?

Need to know considering U-Haul transport trailer...

It depends on the tires and rims that are on it. The WMS to WMS of the stock 6 lug front end is 67.5". If it has 15 x 8 ralley like my 90 then you'd be coming in at 80.5". If it has 15 x 7's or 15 x 6's then you might squeak by but it'll be tight for sure.

The rear is narrower, so it's not an issue.

Usually it's just getting the tires past the fenders on a trailer, so theoretically you could put the K5 on the trailer backwards. You do have to make sure you can get the proper weight balance and tongue weight though which might not be possible with it backwards on the trailer.

I've found a lot of trailer places will not rent one to you for a K5.

i know my 1ton dana 60 with stock 235/85/16 stock steel wheels cleared by 1/2" on my old trailer per side with 79" fender to fender.

Yeah, don't tell Uhaul what you will be towing. Tell em it's a Cavalier or something small. The last Uhaul trailer I saw, you pull a couple pins and the fenders fold down for clearance. Where the vehicles tires go on the trailer it's like a channel for the tires to fit in, maybe like 2" deep. If the Blazer doesn't exactly fit in the channels you could buy a couple 2x6s from the local home store to ease the tires past the channel side rails. Or if it's just close enough, a can of WD-40 sprayed liberally down the sides of the rails should squeeze the tires past the length. Sometimes just putting 40 or 50 psi in the tires will take the "bubble" out of the bottom of the tire and give you more clearance (less width) to make it up that trailer. The front tires should be the only ones you have trouble with.

If you are traveling some distance to pick up a new Blazer with a Uhaul trailer you will need to be able to think on your feet if it doesn't quite fit. These tips should get you through.
