so I went to do the 140amp transport van alternator upgrade to my truck today. I pulled the alternator, I had to cut the orange and the black wires on the plug in because the plug is melted and it wont come unplugged. The transport alternator wont fit due to bracketry issues, so I put the stock one back on. reconnect the two cut wires with butt connectors. Now it's charging at 15.3 volts. What's up with that?

13.5-15.5V is normal charging range but 14.5ish is real normal.

Where are you checking the voltage at, the battery or the rear stud of the alternator?

I would not worry about it then, if the voltage starts to climb around the high 15 volt range then time to worry and swap the alternator out. Going to have to assume you do not have any loads on while testing the voltage?
