overhead storage

anyone ever seen or used this? think it would be a good place to mount my communications components and other random junk.

I don't like it because it seems like everything would fall down on your head unless you put it in a mall crawler.

actually i had one of these in my stepside. when it did get abit bumpy things did tend to fly around. the thing that i didnt like was that after installing the shelf, the visors would come down alot lower (cause they were mounted on the underside of the shelf). it kinda bothered me, but i needed the storage. it is steel underneath the fabric, so i was imagining mounting things to it...CB etc..

I bought one of those shelves and put it in my '86. The sun visors mount to the bottom at they block a lot of the visibility at the upper part of the windwhield even when the visors are in the up (flat) position. My view of the scenery was too restricted. Also, stuff does not stay on the shelf well when wheeling the back roads. I took mine out and it's still in the shed.

I've had a Rifle-It in my daily driver for about 5 years. I left the sunvisors off because because of the visibility issue. Its a good place to put crap when your running up and down the highway, but things do fall off when it gets bumpy. Also, smaller carbines and rifles are about the only guns that will fit. I probably won't buy another one.

I have thought of getting one and making a panel that would enclose the shelf. Make the driverside a switch panel, the center for a cb, and have a little door on the the passenger side to allow for enclosed storage. As it is sold I don't think it would be very practical as things would tend to bounce off at the worst time.

thats exactly what i was thinking but i got to thinking and figured it would be a billion times easier and cheaper to just make exactly what i want out of wood then having someone upholster it. then i could make seperate compartments for a cb and another for a ham... and theres millions of ideas running through my head and i definately need to think this one over for a while if i even decide to go through with it

I am going to buy a Tuffy overhead console. I have made a provision in my cage build for one. There lockable and steel. They aint cheep though, but its only money, someday when your dead it wont matter anyways .

I had one of those with the little console in the middle and friend bought the shelf only one. The console one the shelf itself was a little deeper. I mounted my CB and light switch toggles in the middle and he mounted a CB and scanner.
