Overheating..Drawing a blank UPDATE #2

Re: ARRGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I was buying water pumps, I'd check into what they offer for AC and Non AC setups, if there is a different number listed.

Haven't seen any reference to this in Chevy circles, but there are about 3 different impeller setups in the Oldsmobile water pumps...different sizes, amount of blades, and some aftermarkets with the anti-cavitation plates riveted onto the impeller. GMB is one of the ones mentioned to have better pumps based on impeller setup.

Re: ARRGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Grimy... believe it or not we use cascade to flush out our systems...did one today matter of fact...3406E cat...injector cups leaking...puts coolant into the fuel tank...when we finish the job we run a small box of cascade with straight water in the system and run them until they get to operating temps witht he stats open...then let the fan kick on several times before we start flush it all out to ensure a nice clean job...cummins also makes a liquid flush under the fleetgaurd filter name that will do the job also...

It's in the adaptor at the block. It's a bimetal spring deal.

Have you seen this in a manual or in person? Only "parts" on the adapter in the garage are two spring loaded valves (prolly bypass valves) that at room temperature are very easy to open. There's a plug in one side of the adapter that takes a 3/8" ratchet to pull off, but no clue what that is for...appears to be tied into the "exterior" valve. One valve is right where the filter threads on (dead center) one is off to the side.

Not trying to dilute this thread, just never heard reference to any temperature feature of the cooler setup before.

Dug out the factory manual. I swore I read it in there. I guess I'm wrong. I thought one of the valves in there was thermo. According to the factory manual one is oil filter bypass and the other is oil cooler by pass.

I assumed it was same set up as the Hayden oil cooler kit you can buy at Pep boys. It does have a Thermo valve. Been thinking of putting it on the other truck.

Ok when I rebuilt the 350 in my Jimmy I suddenly had an overheating problem.
1st thing change the thermostat-no change
2nd checked water pump flow-Good
3rd replaced Rad with a High flow Modine-no change
4th removed thermostat-didn't overheat
5th bought a new thermostat from a different supplier and different brand- PROBLEM SOLVED!

Try replacing the thermostat with a different brand.
I tried 2 of the same brand with no luck and a guy I work with had the same problem.

Stant brand thermostat.

Hehe Yep. Metered out the sender for the oil temp gage....Bad. It was little over 80 degrees optimistic. It's running between 220-240 on the oil temp. The 240 once it starts over heating and the coolant is at 220 (over 220 is what I concider too hot on the coolant.) Once I get the coolant temp back down it takes a while for the oil temp to get back to 220.

Thined out the coolant. stays under 210 on the hwy with the A/C on the little I have drove it. See how it does tomorrow.
