I have never had an overheating issue with the blazerthen all of a sudden this morning i am driving to work everything is fine. As i come into traffic my temp gauge sky rocketed over to the red. As traffic started to move the temp went down. But everytime i stop it goes back up. What could be the issue? Soon as the engine cool's dpwn i am going to see if it needs more anti freeze but i dont think it does as i added some a couple of weeks ago.

maybe waterpump? not sure of the symptoms of a bad water pump but maybe since your moving and air is passing by along with fan everything is cool then once there isnt airflow and the water isnt being moved it heats up?

I would make sure the fan is working properly. if it's the original clutch fan the clutch may be bad.

there is no fan clutch on the blazer. All it has is a spacer and a fan then the shroud. After it cooled down at the office i added about 3/4 of a jug of antifreeze. Does not seem to be leaking anywhere. Guess we will see later when i have to leave.
