Does any body have any recommendations in order to prevent overheating? When wheeling my climbs really fast, then I shut the truck off and let it cool down. I have no problems on the street or in traffic. Any ideas would be great.

I took the shroud off and put a 89 Taurus fan in between the engine fan and the rad. and it works perfect, use a relay for the fan or it will drain your batt. those taurus fans draw alot of amps.

An auxillary fan hooked up to a temp switch so it will come on or stay on when motor is off till it lowers to a set temp. A buddy of mine did that with his fyord.

what are you running stock fan, flex fan, or electric any performance upgrades what engine size

Its a 350 with a flex-a-lite dual puller fan. Hooked up to a derale temp switch. It seems like the fan runs all the time.

switch it back to a stock fan with a new clutch and factory shroud and you should be fine

check the pump for adequate water flow..the impeller could be chewed up, a high flow pump may be in order.

remove the valve from the thermostat...this creates a simple restrictor plate which allows water to flow like the thermostat is stuck open

make sure the cooling system is purged completely

replace the bottom hose as it may be collapsing

write your congressman for suggestions :haha:

It might be the fans because I have the same setup and mine heats up when I go up long hills or wheel it hard.

What are the fans rated at CFM-wise? Doesn't matter if electric or clutched, if the fan is too small it will overheat.

This is the fan I am running but I changed it to run full rpm when above 180 degrees

How is your radiator? Is it in good shape? Are the tubes clean and not plugged or corroded.
If your radiator is in good shape then.
I would get rid of the electric flex a lite
Flex a lite fans dont pull enough CFMs. You would be better off with stock fan/Clutch and shroud.. Or going with a Tarus/ V8 T bird, lincoln Mk VIII fan, as above post said. But you will need a 130 amp alternator to power it or it will suck your battery dry..

If that setup really pulls 4600CFM, you shouldn't be having fan related cooling issues IMO.

You say long hills, is this towing, unloaded, freeway, logging roads, ?

Everything is new, radiator is a 4 row, new thermostat and its when I am going up steep highways. How much better is the Tarus fan then my setup?

with the taurus fan it has not gone over 200 ever , the fan cost me $25 from Langlys auto wrecking.
