I have seen where a lot of people will flip the overload on the rear springs to get better flex, but what happens if you just take it off completely? I have my packs apart right now and sarted thinking about this. Anyone tried it? Thanks

I had removed the overloads from a set of springs once and the springs went bad (lost the arch and sagged bad).

IMO, if you never tow or carry a heavy load, the overloads will never come into play and leaving them out is no problem. It can also improve flex, but if you are flexing the springs that much they will probably wear out quickly - but this probably holds true for aftermarket springs as well.

Front springs don't use overloads since the load is fairly constant.

Just remember that the overload spring is 3/4" thick, so you will lower the back of the truck by taking them out. I have cut overloads off before to make 3/4" "zero rates"

The point of the overloads is to keep the spring from over-flexing. If the spring goes into a negative arch it will lose ride height in a hurry and become more likely to break.

Not every spring pack needs overloads, it depends on how much arch there is to the spring and how much load they will see.

I dont forsee it doing any towing or carrying anything heavy, at this point I really dont know if it is ever even gonna see the street. I had thought about the ride height thing and was planning on putting on a zero rate, either to correct for the loss in height if I removed the overload or just add a little more if I keep it. I guess since they are 32 year old springs and have quite a bit of use and probably sag already Im gonna just flip the overloads and leave em on, thanks for the help.
