Overload leaves

What does it feel like when you hit the overload leaves?

I am wondering because when on the beach and the truck gets into a rhythm of bumps (similar to whoops) I get a strong "THUMP" occasionally. Not sure if this is normal or something I need to look into further.

FWIW I have 63" dodge ram ('06 i believe) rear springs with custom hangers.

I've never "felt" the overloads, usually a bump feeling is the axle bottoming out on the rubber bump stops,,, I've hit those on several occasions in just about every vehicle I have owned.. :-P
