86 K5 blazer frame and 70 cab how much of a pain would this be? I'm pretty sure where there is a will there's a way, but my biggest concern is that I would like to use the blazer suspension points and bolt motor in stock k5 location.

I know someone who put a '56 Suburban on a 73 up frame,it took some re-mounting of the cab mounts in the proper locations--he used the ones off the suburban frame for the front cab mounts, the rears required a crossmember he made of channel iron for the cab mount cushions to sit on..

I'd say its a doable swap, but will require more effort and some fabbing compared to putting a 73 up cab on a K5 frame of similar vintage..

I'm going to head to the farm today and see which of the cabs is in the best condition. The 70 looks fairly straight on the driver's side , the other side is pretty grown up and hasn't been seen in years. The 77 k10 is straight but has a ton of surface rust that could be a issue not sure how deep it goes. If it was a short bed I would have put it together a long time ago. The transmission transfer case and axles are still in it but the motor is missing. There's also a 79-80-81 has a later model brake booster ? With trees growing out of it.

67-72 check winshield area at roof . outside drip rail seam sealer goes bad and lets water in and rust them out bad in this area.

73-80 is hood hinges on fenders only .

80-up is hood hinges rear in wiper cowl and spring assist portion on fenders .

this way mix and match can be a bit tricky .

Let me know if you have any questions... I'm going through the same stuff right now. You're either gonna need to fab a crossmember or get a donor one from a truck for the rear cab mounts.

being a 1970 cab I have no idea but I would imagine none of the body mounts on the frame will line up with the cab/front clip.

a 73 and up cab is pretty easy.

Well I went and kicked around the old stash and realized that all I have is a couple 10 bolt front ends for spares. The c10 was pretty roached I noticed that the rockers were gone.

The gmc was knee deep in rat crap. There's a pretty decent lwb early 70's ford that I keep trying to avoid but I might have to rescue it and sell.

Now that we are finally getting some cooler weather I'm hoping that I can dig around and not have to worry about snakes and wasps.

Subscribed...I like to see the pics of trucks sitting for years.

And then getting used for something cool!

my plow truck has burnt off paint and surface rust like that black one has on the roof/hood .

been that way for almost 10 years I have owned it . no rust holes yet and still solid . . . . . in those areas . lower end tho from plowing and salt splash leaves a lot to be desired .

If you can get your hands on a 73-77 k5 frame, a 73-87 cab will bolt right on with zero mods.

Putting a pre 73 cab on a squarebody k5 frame will require some moving of the body mounts. You will have to make a crossmember for the rear cab mounts or take the crossmember from the pre 73 truck frame and somehow mount it to your k5 frame. If you go the pre 73 cab route, dont forget you will probably have to make some mounts for the radiator support

I'm not sure, but I think you'll need the rear cab mount crossmember from the pickup, to mount a 73 -87 cab onto a K5 frame of the same vintage...

Not totally necessary on a 78 and up k5 frame, but it helps. Swetty is doing this but made his own crossmember. The 73-77 k5 frames are different. There is no rear passenger footwell and the body mount in that location is different than later k5s but is the same as pickup cabs. Therefore, a 73-87 pickup cab will bolt right onto a 73-77 k5 frame
