Was thinking about taking a P30 chassis and building a tow rig around it , using a squarebody or GMT400 crew cab and medium duty front sheet metal.

Does anyone know the spring pad spacing on the front axle? If it’s 32” I would swap a Dana 60 in .

I wouldn’t use a 3500hd frame ,
Just maybe a nice GMT400 cab

i think that motor home is on a 3500 hd frame maybe . thats why i said that .

if its still the old stuff then i got no clue . but a friend of mine years ago built a p30 box truck 14k gvw frame with a 73-87 cab / clip on it with few simple mods for a set of mounts as the frame is more flat and no hump to clear the floor of a truck cab .

I think the spring spacing is the same as the 3500HD too. They are between 33 and 34 inches. I have several 3500HD’s at home. I will measure one when I get home.

I have no clue what that motor home has under it , wasn’t planning on using it .

I have access to a couple of other P30 chassis that are 8-lug but straight axle front

Here's the quick rundown. First off a P30 or P32 chassis has always had IFS front suspension. It's basically the same setup as any C30 front end on a squarebody truck. They bumped the GVW up with heavier coils and later with air bags up front in the coils. It was the chassis that was sold to Workhorse in '98 where it continued along as the widetrack P32 where they pushed the control arm mounting points out 6" per side with a section of box tubing on each side so the front track width was the same as the outer rear dual tire. GVW got pushed up to 18,000 pounds in this form.

So if you want to stuff a D60 under one, it's no different for the most part than converting a C30 over. The frames are straight front to back so it's just a matter of making mounts to match whatever D60 you find for it.
