i got the pro15 catalog i think thats they way im gonna go, i here the prep work is the most important. you wont get a strait answer though it will probally be 50/50 <rust paint or linex>

Well, I've spouted this stuff so often I figured most knew my opinions...

Not so much an opinion on this one, but factual.. The best coating system will be zinc chromate, epoxy primer and a urethane topcoat... A polyester urethane topcoat yields the hardest finish..

Not a bash on Rust Bullet or Por15, they have there place, but THE best coating for clean steel will be the above... I'm not saying the cheapest or quickest, but most durable.. For the really anal, a metal conditioner prior...

Root breaker I guess it depends on your abilities, your desired outcome, and finances.
I believe whatever you choose, prep is the key ingredient in making the outcome durable.

Someone used a paint called "Chassis Saver" and it seemed to work really well. I think thats what I'm going to do on the underside of my K5. They even said is was cheaper than POR15 or Rust Bullet.

These are actually clear chromate but they go through the zinc first. Then into the oven to remove any hydrogen pockets.

Those are my pics of the chassis saver. Stuff is fockin amazin! You will NOT be disapointed.. Great results with virtually NO prepwork. Just get all the loose scale off and clean the surface with a degreaser. Check it out. I swear by this stuff..

I have previously and will continue to use por15, stuff takes the beating I dish out so its good stuff for me. Although I am not in the rust belt either so not quite as harsh a climate.

How important is it to paint your frame, axles, suspension type stuff. I live in North Texas so I do not have to worry with much rust (I think) I will be swapping bodies on the burb this summer and wondering if I SHOULD go ahead and paint while it s off?

well I live in NJ and I really dont need to do it.. I started this thread thinking it would be nice to do.. but I dont have the cash now as my basement flooded and not covered by insurance.. I have a ton of stuff to replace so truck fund is gone...

example.. not too much rust.. well bit of surface but that is mainly it... not bad for a 1978 frame and drivetrain.....
