OK, I had plans to paint my truck flat black as I really like the Darth Vader look and flat because it sprays really well. Well after the last week of 100+ temps I am rethinking the black paint and wheelin in the desert down here:o . I am now thinking of painting the truck flat tan much like the desert hummers and such that our nations army is currently using in the sandbox. My wife (I know don't listen to her) mentioned something about a light camo maybe tan and gray? trying to stay away from brown. Well any advice/ideas/help anyone can provide would be great. I wanna use spray cans as it will def get removed by rocks and I dont wanna pay alot for paint when I know I am gonna **** it up:D

Thanks

Ira

Krylon makes an "ultraflat" tan for camo, available at Autozone and Walmart.

Note this stuff is ULTRA flat, and has a surface like 200grit sandpaper. (That's after surface prep and primer.) It shows dirt and grease easily.

That said, it's a great color and the paint is impermeable to most of the abuse I've given it (brake fluid, of course, eats it still :) )

I did a three-color with this, the Krylon ultra-flat black and a Rustoleum flat brown as I couldn't find the Krylon in a brown at the time.

I'd upload a pic, but apparently that's broken at the moment ... I've posted my trucks before =))

I used the color Taupe, semi-gloss, from Lowes Hardware. 6 to 8 cans and bought several to touch up da rubs!!!

The color varies a bit under different conditions.

I found a 3 color desert pattern I like and I am trying to figure out how to use photoshop to "paint" my truck with it so I can see if it looks good. I think using the Taupe with a tan and maybe a little brown for shadows would look pretty pimp:D .

I found this pattern and I like the colors but would prolly round the edges like the old woodland style cammo.

I think if I can use a taupe instead of the green and maybe a tan or sand color with a touch of brown for shadows.

Can someone with Photoshop experience put this on my truck in this picture?

That is what I am looking at but with the lighter colors of a desert camo:D

Just do the same pattern on your K5 in PhotoShop and apply the colors with a semi transparent overlay.
If it looks good, print it out and draw the lines on the K5 with some chalk. Then drink beer and apply paint

And how do you do that? I am kinda Photoshop stooopid:doah: . I guess I can play around with it and see if I can figure it out.

I did up a quickie color-change from one of my concepts with your palette ... here, also, are the M1009 (CUCV Blazer) paint-by-numbers for you to play with (like the pickup ones Readymix put up.)
