I'm make'n an old m1008 into a real truck n am to the point of ditch'n the camo!

I know I need to sand w/600p b4 paint but what do I need transition to 600p from 80 grit and not see the scratches left by the 80 grip that the 600p can't

Much thx

"Real truck"

Anyway, watch out for that CARC paint on there now. It's not health friendly at all when you sand it. You need a good respirator at the very least.

go from 80 then buz over it with 180 prime the truck then sand the primer down with 600 then paint over that if you wanna get er done quick

unless your using lacquer or basecoat, 600 is too smooth and more work than ya have to do... 320 to 400 wet for single stage.. 600 for base and lacquer..

and honestly, a little more info would be nice.. 80 grit on what to 600 on what? the carc? is there primer involved here?

Wet sand the primer with 400 not 600. 600 is for color sands between finish color coats. While wet sanding keep a really wet rag in your other hand and wipe it over an area you just sanded. It should all stay wet. If one area beads up a little or seams to dry off in a couple seconds, Resand that spot and try again. When it seems to stay wet it means that the pores are open in the primer and your paint will adhear correctly

Ryoken, GM did spray primer under the CARC paint.

Again, CARC is not human health friendly. Read up on it and be careful when sanding it. We paint with it at work and the guys wear full respirator masks and the current debate is whether or not they should have an air supply.

of course they did.. the question was, is he gonna do any priming... expecting to sand carc paint with 80 thru 600 to paint is kinda silly.... 80 grit is something you buzz over with 180, than prime, not sand finer and finer and finer...

didn't mean to sound snippy... :D

did the military get them painted already with regular paint, then do their own carc job on top of that? that'd be my guess...

Nope. Delivered from GM to the military all ready to go. Big Ugly was made in the same plant in Flint, MI that The Blazer was 3 years later.

In fact, as a kid, I remember driving by on the freeway and seeing the waiting lot FULL of NATO forest camo CUCV's.

WAY cool. Especially considering two of my Uncles worked there.
