I'm getting ready to put the Blazer away for the winter and start tearing it down to redo it. Question is, when I tear it down for repainting, I was going to just do acrylic enamel on the interior, jams, firewalls, etc. to save a little money and time on the paint process. Now, when it comes time to have the exterior of it painted, I'm having someone else do that and it will be base/cleared. Will I have any issues with adhesion on some of the areas that will inevitably get some overspray? I thought I had heard one time, you can go one over the other, ie, base/clear over enamel, but not enamel over base/clear. Or is it the other way around??

BC/CC over Enamel

Well from what i have seen on other painting forums is that AE is very sensitive to the chemicals from bc. they suggest using one type of paint only so there will be no fixing later..

Does that pertain to how long it is cured, though? My plan is to tear out the interior and paint the areas I mentioned over the next month or so prior to it getting too cold out in case I don't get my furnace piped in. I will then be swapping in new interior along with all the other misc. mods over the winter. Base/clear won't happen til spring so the enamel will have had 4 to 5 months of cure time. Will that change things??

The reason I foudn this was I am in the same process or restoring my 81 K5 Blaze and had some painting questions.. Check them out.. Hope that helps

Depends how your budget is i guess, AE is way cheaper than Baseclear. I know when i did my 83 it was on a budget and my boss gave me a gallon of free AE paint. so i was like forget buyin it. I was lookin at Duplicor Paintshop or what ever it is, the ready to spray stuff. but i just bought a pint of primer to fix some spots and flashed her down

That is why I was looking at using AE on the inside and in places that most people really don't notice, or critique, as much. Less time spent on mixing since it is only one mixing vs two and fewer passes as well.

If I can go ahead and toss something in here for thought,If your wanting to stay on the cheap, but much more durable than what you've mentioned, urethane or polyurethane single stages are a very good choice, they are very tough and stand up to alot of anything you might want to throw at it.

in alot of budget jobs they cut in with single stage. Just give plenty of cure time. I will prolly do mine that way for time reasons, Ill do the underside of hood inside fenders, inside cab and body, ect.
