The removable op on my truck needs some paint bad as of now it is brow on top but it is suppsed to be white I can start to see the fiberglass coming through the top should I have a pro paint it orI have a friend with a spray gun and compressor or should I use the spray cans? Also what do I need to sand it with or do you?

Thanks Brian

Hardtop is cake to refinish - Use your buddy's spray gun for the best results. First sand it with 220 grit paper, and lay down your primer/sealer (use an acrylic enamel or urethane primer - lacquer based will attack the fiberglass). You'll want to lay down several coats of primer if the 'glass is showing. Give the primer a day or two to dry, then wet sand it with 400 - 600 grit paper. Now is the time to clean the hell out of it, including every nook and cranny. Once it's clean, you're ready for your topcoat. I've always liked either Martin Senour, or Acme acrylic enamels for this sort of job, easy and economical. Or if you are really just looking for quick and easy, alot of folks have done their topper with oil based enamel and a roller.

Sorry - sure don't. Mine's due for a repaint too. There's quite a few guys on here that have redone theirs - look in the member's galleries for pics.

just remeber when you are sanding it to wear a breath mask. I dont think you want to be breathing in fiberglass dust.

Yeah get the mask... I just did mine and cripes when I took off the mask I was shocked to see the amount of crap on it I could have been breathing in....

<font color=black>hey, I'm going to be doing mine soon as well. Does the texture on the tops generally sand off easily so that you can have a smooth top? Or would it take more sanding than you would ever want to do yourself? I can't tell whether the texture is an element of the present paint, or part of the fiberglass itself. Is the 220 paper just to do a general purpose prep, or will it remove the texture.

Ideally, what I'd like is to have the top smooth with the seams filled in.

I had my top smoothed and painted to match my truck for $200.....I'll try to get picture...sorta hard to tell because my truck is Dark Blue.....

Stuck?...Hell no..I still got some gas left..

The texture is in the paint - 220 will take it off pretty easy.
