alright so I've read a few threads about paint, me and my neighbor are doing this.

anyways I've read the paint and mineral spirits with the wet sand that came out amazing..

then i read the rattle can...

and then just normal air gun and auto paint

i automatically ruled out the rattle can so I'm stuck in between the two. can anyone vouch for the paint/mineral spirits trick?

either way, any tips for the two so i can help rule the other one out and paint my truck????????

also, how much paint would i need, its an 87 k10 shrotbed so its single cab 6 1/2 ft bed.

What are you talking about, rolling and tipping?

eh you know what im just guna spray it and make it look nice..anyone have any suggestions, guidelines for that?

ya know what, I would say search or go look in the body forum but your not a member and can't....

Honestly, your question is so vague I'm not gonna write out a 2 pager "how to" on how to paint when there are TONS of threads kicking around with everything you could want to know about bodywork...I've written volumes for this place........

ask me some specifac questions and i'll be glad to help....

alright, how many gallons of paint?
i know i have to wet sand and everything, and im pretty sure i know the grits, but how many packages of paper am i going to need?

for clear coat, can i use the caned stuffinstad?

depends on what you want to shoot and if your doing any jams, hardtop, etc... for a single stage, same color, no hardtop, you can eek by with a gallon in most cases.. generally it's best to have 6 qrts. On many of my project vehicles, I would just knuckle under and buy 2 gallons right off the bat, so I'd always have a little for future projects...

if your interested in base/clear, thats a whole other story.. depending on primer color and base color/transluencasy (sp?), it'll usually be every bit of 6 qrts, if not 2 gallons.. solid vs metallic has a huge amount to do with that too due to spraying techniques..

sanding for primer, or just trying to shoot paint over paint? prep for primer with 150 to 180.. for paint 320 for single stage, 400 for base/clear... eh, 20 sheets? I usually just buy the sleeves of 50 sheets...

that would be silly if your talking rattlecan... go thru the trouble of squirting something thru a gun, then trying to spraybomb clear... single stage you don't have to clear, but can in various techniques.. base, you have to clear, and obviously spraying clear is the right, only way to do it..

base/clear costs you more in materials.. but trust me, if your considering any metallic, base is the way to go.. otherwise single stage is the cheaper, simpler route.. single stage enamel being FAR cheaper than urethane...

anything else?

Paint shop....

I am doing this exact same thing, well I think I am gonna have a friend of a friend spray the paint but I got all my stuff through www.tcpglobal.com then goto the restoration shop.. Nicely priced paitns there... Check it out.. I went with the Base/clear urethane combo.. Its gonna be a two tone color so I am hoping to get by with one gallon of each color for the entire truck... <Bites Nails after reading the above thread about how much>. But you can see my build in my signature.. Check it out..

Didn't see any prices...

In all actuality, and I'm probably gonna get some disagreement, but I think base/clear makes for much easier "reshoots" down the road on damage... costs more but I feel it's worth it for durability, only viable metallic route, and being MUCH easier to blend base/clear than a single stage... and if your not gonna bother blending and just repanel paint with single, all the more reason to buy larger quantities to maintain batch consistency...

Anyway, if your going with the factory style 2-tone, I'd try to go 3 qrts on the mid color, and 5 on the roof/hood color... My guy gives me any combo like that at the same price, online, probably not...

you "should" have enough for the main color, and a fair amount leftover on the mid color...

Yeah sorry about that ryoken, you have to goto say the urethane basecoat on left side and then takes you to color chart, once you find the color you want click on it and that takes you to another screen with options for which ever type paint you want click on fast, medium, slow, combo and that will show you price of kits, if you wanted to see prices... Yeah as for my two tone, ummm its not really gone be a traditional two tone, but a Fire red pearl with with graphics, hope it turns out...
