what did you guys use for primer/paint? gonna start sandblasting my 14b tomorrow and the 44 in a week or two..

We have a paint over here called Hammerite. They do a smooth version which is what I use. No need to primer on keyed surfaces, it even goes straight over rust. When you scratch it up, just touch it up. Not a show finish but tough and practicle.

I plan on using rustoleum on mine when I get a 1 ton set to swap in. Will probably brush it on because it goes on thickker.

POR 15.
It's really tough, you can hit it with a hammer and it doesn't chip.
I painted a piece of rusty scrap steel with it and left it outside for 2 years and the rust didn't come through the paint.
Just paint it on with a brush and it lays on really flat.

If your going thru the trouble to sandblast it, at least make a reasonable attempt to do it right...

some zinc and epoxy primer in rattle can will do ya... then it doesn't much matter what you put on top of that.. Imron, rustoleum, whatever... proper priming is key to durabilty..

rant on...

it amazes me that people will go thru all the trouble to blast, then just slap whatever they have in a can on there...

gotta rusty one? slather the POR15 or Rust Bullett on to your hearts content.... fresh steel? do it right...

well i was gonna primer/paint with a few layers then smother it in some por15 cause i can get it free

yeah, sorry, i should have prefaced that with saying it wasn't directed at anyone in particular...

just a body guy peeve of mine...

just make sure you topcoat the por15... and i would strongly suggest the zinc i post about all the time... THE best thing you can put on bare steel... i'd do zinc, epoxy, sand, por15, topcoat...

ya i just used a wire wheel to clean em up then painted them with cheap wally world rattle cans...lol
