Hello All,
I have the space and equipment (guns and compressor) - I would like to paint my truck in July.

Can you point me to any good web resources for painting beginners?

Can you recommend paint types and brands that I should use for my multi-purpose truck? Will clearcoat be best for brush scratch prevention and buff out?

I know how to color sand, polish, and all the finish work. Need tips on prep and the actual paint materila and process.

I will be staying with the Black.

Thanks!

When it comes to black paint jobs...I prefer cleared paint.. looks better...shows less dirt...easier to buff to a gloss...better durablity too.

What paints does your local body shop supply carry???
There's so many brands to pick from...and they're all pretty good.
PPG, Dupont, or Sherwin Williams products can be found just about anywhere.

As far as prep work goes....
How is the present finish...is it cracked??
Cracked and faded finishes need stripping before refinishing..

Have not checked with local paint shop yet.

Paint is a mess - faded and peeling clearcoat, some door dings, stuff like that. I had planned on an extensive sanding and prep period. Do I need to strip ALL the paint and clear off?

Thanks!

the minimum you'll need to do is featheredge the bad areas... this can cause issues tho... freshly sprayed primer likes to cringe feathered areas at times..

rule of thumb is, if its been painted before, strip it.. lots of mils of paint can lead to bad things.. at a minimum, bring it down to factory primer..

if you want a sweet job (especially going black), strip it... DA with 60 or 80.. chemical, then DA.. either way.. sand to 180, light coat of zinc, epoxy prime, cross block with 400 till perfect, urethane base/clear..

Holy cow - I am BATMAN!!!! :D:D

The Sea Chaser is a beamy cat with center console, twin outboards of 150 or upwards HP, heavily rigged with fishing gear.

We were on is 26' Eliminator pickle fork last weekend - largest fokin outboard I've ever seen. It's a 2-stroke, he claims it is 425hp.... Don't know about that but I do know it's the hardest hi-speed accelerating thing I've ever been in..... Frikkin scary fun!!
