hey, i was thinking about painting my hardtop red... is there anything i should know about doing it? the top is black, i was told i should use 2 coats of gray primer first then a couple coats of the red paint and then a coat of clearcoat.

also, another person mentioned i should ask about making a smooth hardtop.

thanks,
matt

I think you should sand off all the originaly paint first with some 100-200 grit sand paper. But thats about all, the rest sounds right. Of course im no proffesional. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I am going to do the samething. I am going to smoth mine they look good. I dont see why what you have been told would not work as long as you hit it with a pad to rough it up a little and clean it with laquer thinner first.

When sanding a fiberglass hardtop, you must be careful not to sand too deep. If you do, you will be able to see the strands of fiberglass. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif I painted mine black after it being gray then painted all of the sliding window parts to match. Looks really cool. The body now has some mods. from Clayton though. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif Biggest mistake on the whole rig was having an expensive paint job put on it.
